Rwot David Onen Acana II, the Acholi paramount chief has urged his subjects to refrain from social media quarrelling.
Acana was speaking on Saturday from his palace at Wigot in Kanyagoga ward Bardege-Layibi Division in Gulu city during a meeting organized by Samuel Odonga Otoo, the principal of Ribe Pi Paco- RPP, a pressure group.
They were discussing ways of protecting Acholi customary land from rampant land transaction and illegal land acquisition.
Acana says he is angry with a section of vulgar Acholi youth, and politicians who are spreading false propaganda, intolerable sentimental statements and wide range of unproved allegations against cultural leaders, politicians and institutions.
He says that some people have become trouble shouters on various social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, twitter, and YouTube which is causing violence among his subjects.
The paramount chief also says that some harmful messages and propaganda being aired on social media is damaging the reputation of many people and has created hatred, disunity, blackmail and witch-hunt among the people which will weaken the Acholi community if left uncurbed.
Acana faults trouble mongers for using social media to throw a vacuum of wild allegations with no proven sufficient evidence simply with the intention of staining someone’s reputation.
Samuel Odonga Otoo, who has been actively participating on social media throwing a range of allegations on personalities and institutions, says he is going to respect the Paramount chief by remaining silent for a week or two on social media.
Zerubbabel Abuka, of operation wealth creation says he has been a victim of false allegations levied against him on socialism media platforms especially on land issues.
Abuka cites incidences where he has been accused of selling land in Nwoya district.
He says he prefers being corrected through roundtable talks as opposed to sentiments being thrown on social media which taints the image of an individual or institution.
